Summer always goes by too fast, and as soon as the combination Halloween and Back to School products show up in stores every August it’s so easy to feel like your summer’s already over. But there’s still plenty of time before the first day of school, and even longer before the first actual day of fall – so make the most of these coming weeks with some family-friendly activities around Auburn Washington.

How to Spend the Last Month of Summer with Kids

  1. White River Valley Museum & Mary Olson Farm
    • The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, from noon to 4pm. You and the kids can see rotating exhibits and learn about Auburn’s great history, and with free admission – you can go as often as you’d like. The other benefit to the museum is the neighboring Mary Olson Farm just a few miles away, open every Saturday and Sunday in the summer of 2022 (June 18th-August 14th) from 11-4. Admission is free during regular open hours, and a suggestion donation of $5 per person is greatly appreciated. This is said to be King County’s best preserved subsistence farm!
  2. Safari Auburn Indoor Playcentre
    • Safari offers an indoor playplace for children under 52 inches tall, and your whole family some reprieve from the Washington summer heat. Their hours are 11a-7p Monday through Thursday, 10a-8p on Friday and Saturday, and 11a-7p Sundays. You can even book party rooms for celebrations! The admission includes one child and one adult: Monday through Thursday $13.99, Friday through Sunday $15.99, and an additional adult is $6.
  3. West Fenwick Park
    • For older children and teens, the tennis and basketball courts at West Fenwick Park are the perfect way to burn off some extra energy. Bring some grillables for lunch on the provided BBQ grill and enjoy a picnic together out in the beautiful weather. The younger kids will have a blast on the play equipment!
  4. Super Jump Party Zone
    • Bounce houses galore are available for open play every day of the week except Tuesday. Monday & Friday hours are 12p-8p, Wednesday & Thursday hours are 4p-8p, and Saturday & Sunday hours are 10a-8p. You can also reserve a private party room for bouncing, prices vary for private parties. Open play for an hour and a half is $9 plus tax.
  5. Children’s Museum of Tacoma
    • Designed for long hours of entertainment for children, the Children’s Museum of Tacoma is one of our favorite options. The Museum is open from 10a-4pm Thursday through Sunday and is closed from 1p-1:30p every day. Low sensory hours are offered every Friday from 1:30p-4p.

Whether you choose to picnic at the park, explore on the farm, or wander through the Children’s museum – you’ll be glad you took the family out of the house and squeezed a few more memories out of this summer before school kicks off with these family activities around the Auburn Washington area.
