What engine will the 2016 Nissan Maxima have?

Nissan bucked the trend a bit when it gave us our first glimpse of the next Nissan Maxima in a Super Bowl commercial. The typical protocol to follow would be to tease the vehicle until completely unveiling the car at one of the big auto shows. But then again, Nissan isn’t your typical automaker. But just because we’ve seen the design of the car doesn’t mean we know everything there is to know about it. One of the big questions still remains: What engine will the 2016 Nissan Maxima have?

While we may not know the specifics on the engine just yet, we have some ideas. Nissan is saving the exact details for the New York Auto Show next month. You didn’t expect them to leave nothing to be announced at the show, did you?

Expect the new Maxima to have a 3.5-liter V-6 under the hood that will have output up to 300 horsepower. This engine will be coupled to a Continuously Variable Transmission, so the fuel mileage will likely be very strong for the segment. Of course, we wouldn’t put it past Nissan to offer a second, more performance focused engine on the Maxima as well. Our guess is that a 3.7-liter V-6 could be an option as well.

We’ll have to wait until New York for all of these details, but we certainly have a good start on things. And until then, we can marvel at the new design of the vehicle, which has all the curves and creases we can handle. The front end alone is good looking enough to attract some new potential suitors. Needless to say, we can’t wait to offer it here on the lot.
