Nissan to Adopt North American Charging Standard for Electric Vehicles
Nissan of Auburn is pleased to announce that Nissan has reached an agreement with Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) beginning in 2025. This means that Owners of the Nissan Ariya, as well as future Nissan EVs, will soon be able to use the Tesla Supercharging network. Praised for their reliability and strategic placement, there are over 40,000 Tesla supercharging units in the U.S. Nissan is the first Japanese automaker to announce future product support for NACS.
The move will involve two steps. All 2024 Nissan Ariya models will include a NACS charging adapter allowing them to use Tesla Superchargers in addition to chargers currently equipped with the Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) for DC fast charging. Such adapters should also be available for purchase by current EV owners. Because the current Leaf uses the first-generation CHAdeMO charging port, it is not impacted in any way by this agreement.

For the 2025 model year, Nissan will begin offering EVs for the U.S. and Canadian markets with a built-in NACS port enabling them to use the Tesla Supercharger network without the need for an adaptor.
“Adopting the NACS standard underlines Nissan’s commitment to making electric mobility even more accessible as we follow our Ambition 2030 long-term vision of greater electrification,” said Jérémie Papin, chairperson, Nissan Americas. “We are happy to provide access to thousands more fast chargers for Nissan EV drivers, adding confidence and convenience when planning long-distance journeys.”
As part of its Ambition 2030 program, Nissan is planning to have more than 40% of its U.S. vehicle sales to be fully electric by 2030, and much of the remaining vehicles to be electrified. Nissan has in development two all-new EVs to be built at the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi, beginning for the 2026 model year.
All of this makes the Ariya an even more attractive proposition, particularly for those wishing to take their Ariya for extended road trips. It could also be the tipping point for many on the edge of EV consideration. If such tipping toward EVs applies to you, Nissan of Auburn invites you to take a look and test drive the beautiful and sophisticated Ariya.
