Nissan Leaf Nismo

nissanThe Nissan Leaf Nismo Concept

Nissan might be breaking the electric car mold with its new Nismo concept. The Nissan Leaf Nismo prototype was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show and it featured a sporty exterior restyling and Nismo performance upgrades. This new prototype addresses one of the major faults in the electric car industry, aesthetic appeal. Let’s face it, when we think of fully electric vehicles our minds fill with images of vehicles from across the industry that are—let’s just say it—a little dorky! The Nissan Leaf Nismo has the classic Nismo Style with an aggressive body style and performance enhancements to match.

Zero emission electric vehicles have really been lacking in this department. The fact of the matter is, electric vehicles really do perform better than their combustion counterparts but it’s hard to make the arguments for more torque to the wheels and more responsive acceleration when you are looking at a bug eyed hatchback. The curb appeal of a vehicle is still a major selling factor for consumers, and one that has been keeping new customers from dipping their toes in the waters of the electric car market.

It’s Time for a Change

Nissan decided it was time to throw a new concept out there, the Leaf Nismo. The Nissan Leaf Nismo is lowered, wider, and way more aggressive than the standard leaf. The reimagining of the Nissan Leaf screams Nismo Racing. A black hood and black roof contrast nicely with the white body. Sculpted side skirts with red accents give the Nissan Leaf that classic Nismo Racing look. This new concept brings a whole lot of style to a market that has been lacking it for years.

The application of Nismo racing technology to the car’s body results in enhanced aerodynamic performance and less lift, without sacrificing the LEAF’s excellent drag coefficient. The black interior features Nismo’s signature red accents, creating an exciting, high-performance feel.

The Nissan Leaf Nismo is an environmentally friendly electric car. The 2018 Nissan Leaf comes with an 110kw AC synchronous electric motor and a 40kWh lithium ion battery. The electric motor will generate 147-horsepower and the lithium ion battery has a range of 150 miles. One of the benefits of an electric motor is that it delivers 100% of its torque straight off the line. The performance advantage of electric motors over combustion is that electric engines aren’t hindered by as many mechanical parts when delivering torque to the wheels. At each transition of energy through the mechanical components of a combustion engine power is lost. Electric engines power the drive shaft directly with magnetic fields. This allows the electric engine to deliver maximum torque straight to the wheels at zero rpms. This results in quick acceleration and better performance with less horsepower. It hasn’t be revealed yet if the Nissan Leaf Nismo will benefit from an upgraded electric motor, but even with the 110kw AC electric motor the Leaf Nismo will still give you an amazing driving experience.

The Leaf Nismo Concept comes with a sport-tuned suspension and performance racing tires. A custom-tuned computer allows the Nismo Leaf to deliver maximum acceleration at any speed. If you are like me and are curious about getting into an electric vehicle but still need an exhilarating driving experience to keep you satisfied, then the Nismo Leaf may be the answer we’ve been waiting for.
