Nissan Frontier Has Better Resale Value Than Toyota Tacoma
It is no secret to anyone, least of all Rairdon’s Nissan of Auburn, that the Toyota Tacoma is the sales leader among mid-size trucks, but when it comes to resale value, our Frontier edges out the Tacoma. Based on used sales records, and ALG estimates, the Frontier is projected to maintain up to 88.6% of its value after five years of ownership, while the Tacoma is expected to retain about 87.6% of its value. Obviously, one percentage point isn’t a vast difference, but it still puts the Frontier on top. Frontier’s 5-year resale value even tops the Ford F-150.
This would not be due to the Frontier having a lower initial price, as the starting price of a 2023 Frontier and Tacoma are within $600 of one another. Also, similar, in fact identical, are J.D. Power reliability ratings. The firm gives the Frontier a reliability rating of 83 out of 100, and the Tacoma also earned an 83 rating, both of which are significantly above average.
Major differences in Drivetrain
A major difference may be found under the hood. The Frontier’s standard engine is a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It is coupled with a 9-speed transmission. This greatly out-classes the Tacoma’s standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with just 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque as well as its 6-speed automatic transmission. Even the Tacoma’s 3.5-liter V6 engine upgrade falls short of the Frontier in horsepower and torque.
Newer Design
Another possible factor is that the Nissan Frontier was fully redesigned in 2022 with an all-new exterior. The interior was also fully redesigned and included a standard 8-inch touchscreen, which is upgradable to 9 inches. By contrast, the Tacoma was last redesigned in 2016, which partially explains the less competitive drivetrain.
There are other reasons besides resale to base your truck model selection, and the 2023 Frontier was designed and engineered to fulfill them. If you are interested in the capability and efficiency of a mid-size truck, testing the Frontier at Rairdon’s Nissan of Auburn simply must be on your list. Between well-stocked inventory and special offers, we will make sure you drive away happy.
