The New Nissan Kicks

The brand-new Nissan Kicks is the newest entry level compact crossover and is expected to arrive in the U.S. in June 2018. The Kicks will be the sixth member of Nissan’s extremely popular crossover family. The new crossover was revealed last week at the LA Auto Show where Nissan announced that the Kicks will be the most affordable crossover in their line-up with an expected starting MSRP of $19,000. This will allow Nissan to compete more aggressively with other manufactures in the entry level crossover department. The Nissan Kicks is designed with unique styling, roominess, personal technology, smart functionality and advanced safety features at an affordable price.

“This emerging CUV class is exploding with new entries for a very good reason – the combination of flexible utility and high value is ideal for active, urban new vehicle buyers,” said Dan Mohnke, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing and Operations, Nissan Division U.S., Nissan North America, Inc. “Where the new Nissan Kicks stands out is with its bold style, personal technology, value and anticipated fuel economy of 33-mpg combined.”

The Nissan Kicks was first introduced to us during the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2014 as a concept car. Four years later that concept finally comes to life. The basic design concepts introduced at the Sao Paulo Motor Show have all been retained. The Kicks combines practicality and aerodynamics in a contemporary and stylish design. The 2018 Nissan Kicks features the signature Nissan V-Motion grille with boomerang headlights and taillights. Additionally, the Kicks has expressive and bold wheel arches complemented by a wide C-pillar that blends into the tailgate. The expressively aggressive body lines on the 2018 Nissan Kicks really accentuates the Kicks muscular crossover stance.

“From a pure visual standpoint on the street, Kicks is a true head turner, especially in the bold two-tone color combinations,” said Mohnke. “Kicks is clearly recognizable as part of the Nissan CUV family, but has a vibrancy and identity all its own.”

Smart Interior, Personalized Technologies

On the interior the Nissan Kicks is filled with innovative cabin features to placate the tech-hungry consumers. The modern gliding dashboard design houses a centrally mounted 7.0-inch infotainment system. The Kicks will offer connectivity with most smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

“The idea behind personalized technology is to allow drivers to do what they want, where they want,” said Mohnke. “For example, they can access mpg numbers, chassis dynamic control, radio/playlist information on the meter screen or on the audio display. You decide what to look at where.”
The Nissan Kicks will also come equipped with Nissan Intelligent Mobility which features a host of safety and security systems. The Kicks includes an available Intelligent Around View Monitor, which uses four on-board cameras to present a composite 360-degree bird’s-eye view around the Kicks. Nissan Intelligent Mobility also features standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Forward Collision Warning is standard on all grade levels, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Every 2018 Kicks is equipped standard with a 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine that produces 125-horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a continuous variable valve timing control system which helps enhance engine efficiency. The Nissan Kicks is rated with an estimated combined fuel economy of 33mpg.
