What is e-4ORCE?

As we mentioned, there are two powertrains available in the Nissan Ariya this year. The standard option is a front-wheel drive option that features a single electric motor, while the second is an all-wheel drive option with two electric motors, one powering each axle. Instead of being called AWD, the all-wheel drive option is instead labeled as e-4ORCE, which is the brand’s clever new way to highlight both its electric nature and the fact that power is going to all four wheels.

Front-wheel drive models equipped with the 63 kWh battery are capable of generating up to 214 horsepower alongside 221 pound-feet of torque while delivering up to 216 miles of driving range. Upgrading the FWD models to an 87 kWh battery increases power output to 238 hp and range to 304 miles.

e-4ORCE models equipped with the standard 63 kWh battery can generate up to 334 hp and 413 lb-ft. of torque while traveling up to 205 miles. With the 87 kWh battery, power and range increase respectively to 389 hp, 442 lb-ft. and 272 miles. Certain other aspects of the vehicle can adjust the range slightly, though 272 miles is the furthest an e-4ORCE can go and 304 miles is the furthest a FWD can go.

What you value from your electric vehicle will certainly dictate the model for you. If you’d prefer being able to travel further while sacrificing some of the power associated with EVs, then a front-wheel drive model might be for you. On the other hand, if you’re willing to forego a few dozen miles of electric driving range in favor of more power, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the e-4ORCE models.
