Built from what we Nissan learned with the legendary R32, R33, and R34 GT-R’s, Nissan challenged convention at every point of the development of the R35 generation. Instead of a large, heavy engine thirsty for fuel, the Nissan GT-R is powered by an ideally sized, twin-turbocharged 3.8-L V6 that produces a prodigious 565 hp and equally powerful 467 lb-ft of torque.
It’s built with immense strength, from a closed-deck cylinder block to a ladder frame structure for added support. Just as important as the engineering is the actual assembly, which is done by hand by a single master craftsman, whose signature you’ll find on a small but prominent plaque.
From the front bumper to the rear, every aspect of the GT-R has been created to deliver unparalleled performance when you get behind the wheel. Everything about the Nissan GT-R is inspired by racing.
An IHI turbocharger is mounted on each bank of the engine. The exhaust manifolds have optimized turbo flange attachment points, which allow for easier servicing and potential tuning without touching the exhaust manifold. To ensure there is no turbo lag as torque rises GT-R uses high-precision electronic controls. The abradable seal housing developed by our GT3 racing program brings enhanced engine response at lower rpm.
Nissan GT-R’s Premium Midship platform uniquely places the engine farther back in the chassis and mounts the transmission with the transfer case in the rear of the car which creates an independent rear transaxle in an All-Wheel Drive vehicle and gives better handling.
Only five master craftsmen in the world, known as Takumi, are allowed to hand-assemble the GT-R’s engine and affix a plaque carrying their name.
The rigid, evenly weighted body gets its maximum strength from Carbon Aluminum Die-Cast Steel. The suspension strut tower bar is made of a lightweight but strong carbon composite.
A titanium exhaust works with the rear fascia to ensure proper cooling from the engine’s massive output. Notoriously difficult to create, each exhaust is hand-built by a master craftsman and is specifically designed for each individual vehicle. A “burnished” finish to the exhaust tip gives the perfect look of a high-performance vehicle.
Meticulous fine-tuning of the GT-R’s aerodynamics creates an incredibly clean Coefficient of Drag of just 0.26 Cd. While GT-R looks like a substantial, powerful supercar, to the wind, it punches through the air like a low-slung, mid-engine supercar.
Careful attention to the shape of the front fascia, C-pillar, and extensions at the lower portion of the rear bumper allows the GT-R to cut through the air efficiently.
By reinforcing the hood and fine-tuning the design of the front spoiler and side sill extensions, the air is prevented from being drawn under the vehicle, helping the GT-R consistently apply downforce adding grip, and enhancing control.
The average car has exposed working gear underneath where the wind whips around, creating lift and slowing you down. The Nissan GT-R underbody is virtually completely covered by composite panels, giving it a flat, aerodynamic surface. At the front of the car, the flat underbody is accelerating the air and channeling it over the brakes, cooling them down. At the back, a carbon-fiber diffuser takes that accelerated air and slows it down, creating a vacuum effect that connects Nissan GT-R to the road, while a duct in the diffuser helps cool the titanium exhaust.
The GT-R’s sequential dual-clutch transmission snaps off lightning-quick gear changes when in R-Mode.
GT-R uses a dry-sump lubrication system to ensure stable lubrication for the transmission even when cornering at high Gs. The system distributes transmission oil directly onto the gears, reducing friction and increasing reliability.
The Nissan GT-R’s 6-speed dual-clutch transmission shifts incredibly quickly with separate clutches for the odd (1st, 3rd, 5th) and even (2nd, 4th, 6th) gears. While in an odd-numbered gear, the adjacent even numbered gear is “pre-selected” and prepared to make the shift immediately. The transmission is so smart, it even “blips” the throttle on downshifts to match rpm.
Three switches allow for on-the-fly adjustment of specific performance parameters for the transmission, suspension, and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system.
With one of the most advanced All-Wheel Drive and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) systems ever used in a road car, the ATTESA ET-S®, Nissan powers through where other supercars do not dare.
Instead of the traditional 50/50 torque split between front and rear axles, the electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive system provides up to nearly 100% of available torque to the rear wheels and sends up to 50% of torque to the front wheels when needed. You get the response of a rear-wheel-drive vehicle while getting the added confidence that only AWD can offer. VDC continuously monitors your steering and braking actions, senses any oversteer or understeer, and compensates by reducing engine speed and/or applying brake pressure to specific wheels.
The brakes are 6 piston front and 4 pistons rear monoblock calipers with floating disc rotors that offer more equal and solid clamping power with their rigidity and light weight.
Bilstein® Damptronic® driver-adjustable shock absorber system uses multiple vehicle information sources to provide the appropriate damping response and a high level of control for any driving situation.
Rather than being designed to fit the commands of aerodynamics, the GT-R is a a force of nature that sculpts the air to its needs. The front fascia features large grille openings to supply cooling air to the engine components and give GT-R its signature snarl. The fascia shape also directs the air around the front wheels and reduces drag. The fascia frames in the V-motion grille that is coated in matte chrome finish surrounding the signature badging. and is flanked by multi-LED, high intensity, sports efficient headlights that have a “lightning” motif for a striking a speed inspiring visual.
The Nissan GT-R features forged aluminum 20″ wheels in a machined finish to produce the high-quality, high-performance look that adds to the aggressiveness of GT-R. The wheels are manufactured by RAYS® and are as much functional as beautiful because they utilize knurling inside the wheels to help keep the tires from slipping around the wheels under heavy acceleration or braking.
Nissan GT-R has 4 iconic round rear taillights. They are so recognizable because that is what most are used to seeing as GT-R leaves them in the dust. The rear fascia extends at the sides to accelerate air away from the back bumper and pull hot gases away from the exhaust.
The GT-R’s Sport seats feature deep bolsters that are designed to help keep you in place through every corner. They also add to the styling and tactile experience with the available semi-aniline leather interior appointments, along with double stitching on the seats and 8-way adjustability.
Alcantara®-appointed steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob with red accents, and the iconic NISMO red tachometer appear in the NISMO Trim. Also unique to GT-R NISMO are heated, reclining leather-appointed ergonomically sculpted Recaro® seats with red synthetic suede inserts that are designed to hold the shoulder blades and lower body points, giving the driver a better sense of car and body as one.

Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system not only helps you maintain your steering path. In R-Mode, it actually sends more power to the appropriate wheels when it senses oversteer or understeer. When TCS senses drive-wheel spin, it responds by reducing throttle to both regain grip and maintain control.
In sudden-braking situations, ABS pumps the brakes quickly to help prevent wheel lockup and help you maintain control while Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) monitors weight distribution and adjusts rear brake force to compensate for added weight from passengers or cargo.
