If you want your Altima with more power, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine rocks a strong 236 horsepower. Kelly Blue Book calls Nissan’s CVT development ‘exhaustive’, and the third-generation Xtronic CVT in the Altima includes D-Step Logic Control, computer software that uses multiple data inputs to determine the ideal gear ratio for smooth acceleration, and mimics the feel of a traditional engine.

While FWD is standard on the Nissan Altima, it is one of only a handful of vehicles available under $28,000 with the security and traction of available AWD. The Altima’s high-tech Intelligent All-Wheel Drive can operate with 100 percent of the power feeding the front wheels for stellar fuel economy or automatically send as much as 50 percent of the power to the real wheels for sure-footed traction, a key benefit if you’re traveling wet roads or trying to get through a snowy climate.

The Nissan Altima head-turning looks in all color choices. Crisp lines and flowing curves make it look like it’s moving at standstill. Legroom in the front seats is exceptional at 43.8 inches, with 39.2 inches of headroom (a sunroof eats about one inch). Comfortable back seats have ample legroom and fold with a 60-40 split. An ample 15.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity in the trunk are more than both the Toyota Camry and Subaru legacy. The Nissan Altima is available in a total of nine trim levels – five with the front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration (S, SV, SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo) and four with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain (SV, SR, SL, and Platinum). All trims but one include the powerful, lightweight, 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine. The reliable and smooth Xtronic CVT continuously-variable transmission is standard across the model line, and there is limited availability of the high-performance SR VC-Turbo, with a boosted 2.0-liter engine. Bluetooth, LED headlights, power mirrors and zero-gravity front seats are standard across the line, and the higher SL and Platinum trim levels include high-tech safety features like ProPILOT Assist, which includes intelligent cruise control and steering assist. Apple Car Play and Android Auto are standard on all trims except the base S.
